Timeline 1930-1954

1932 EJ Sykes Mayor. Sir Phillip Game, Governor of NSW, visited Wentworth. EJ, Maureen and Joan acted as hosts.
Sydney Harbour Bridge opened – the Sykes in attendance.
1933 John Ford born to Maureen and Ken Ford.
1936-37 EJ Sykes Mayor of Wentworth.
1936 Jean Loomes and Joan Sykes ‘coming out’ in Mildura.
Maureen Selina Joan (Selina) Ford born to Maureen and Ken Ford.
1937 Des Sykes and Isabel McLeod marry in Wentworth.
1939 Meredyth Sykes born.
The Fords returned to their house in Cammeray in Sydney.
1939-1946 Second World war and drought in the Riverina.

1940 Judith Joan Sykes born to Des and Isabel Sykes.
Fords move back to Sydney from Wentworth.
1942 Bill Green married Joan Sykes in St. Patrick’s cathedral Melbourne.
Jean Loomes married Alan Roper in St. Mary’s Thornbury.
1943 Wendy Anne Maria Goretti born in Melbourne to Bill and Joan Green.
1945 Peg Loomes married Frank Sheean in Wentworth
Bill and Joan Green moved from Melbourne to Wentworth, to look after the Commercial hotel.
Peter Vincent Joseph Green (creator of this website) born in Mildura to Bill and Joan Green.
Frank Sheean and John Green (no relation) opened a business in Dareton selling men’s clothes.
Alan Roper appointed Secretary-manager of the Coomealla Memorial Club.
1946 Robinvale settled

1947 Michael James Green born in Wentworth to Bill and Joan Green.
Frances Kathleen Sheean born
First Ford Ferguson tractor in Wentworth
Father Higgins came to Wentworth – part owner of Tiger Moth biplane.
1948 Sally Maree Sheean born
1949 Bill and Joan Green purchased a fruit block on Yelta Road in Curlwaa, and the Commercial hotel was leased out.

1953 Death of EJ. His life is also summarised on the Sykes family tree website. Subsequently, a pavilion on the sporting complex at Wentworth was named the EJ Sykes pavilion.
Death of Ken Ford.
Commercial Hotel sold.
1954 Queen Elizabeth and Duke of Edinburgh visited Mildura. Schoolchildren were driven to Mildura in a cattle truck.
Green family moved first to Geelong, then later that year to 25 Doris street Greensborough.
