Bernard Sheean (1957-1963)
Bernard James Sheean tragically drowned in the Curlwaa swimming pool on 2nd February 1963, aged six. He was a delightful little boy with huge brown eyes and dark hair. He and Michael were both loved in the small community of Coomealla and their deaths broke the hearts of mum, dad, Sally and I.
Michael Sheean (1946-1966)
Michael Edward Sheean, the first child of Frank and Peg Sheean, was born on the 5th May 1946 and attended the Catholic school in Wentworth and Sacred Heart College in Adelaide, where he excelled in sport, particularly football, cricket and athletics. These activities helped overcome his homesickness.
in 1963, the year Bernard, his six year old brother died, Michael completed his matriculation in Mildura.
He was accepted to do accountancy with a local firm Hancock Woodward and Hollick and worked in their Robinvale office, studying by correspondence.
While doing year 12 Michael played football and cricket for the Wentworth Sporting Club, playing in both finals. He was very athletic and a polished sportsman, winning many 'best and fairest' medals and trophies. He was regarded as a 'real sort' by the girls - and the blokes loved him too. When working in Robinvale he gained a clearance to play for the Robinvale Football Club where he played in the senior team, he won another trophy and the grand final that year.
Michael was killed in a car accident on 28th October 1966. The driver of the other vehicle was a local Coomealla supermarket owner who had been drinking - however was not convicted. But the shame of his actions led him to move from Coomealla shortly after the accident.
